Baby Maverick Is Born

Maverick Aain Lee Greengard.
Born: September 9, 2014 @ 1:20 p.m.
21 inches, 8 lbs 10 oz.

Here's the story:
At our 36 week ultrasound Maverick was measuring BIG. Our doctor said that if the baby goes to 40 weeks the baby will be almost 9 lbs (My due date/40 week date was September 5, 2014). Our doctor went on to say that if I went passed my due date the baby would continue to get bigger and increase the chances of a c-section.  So he recommended an induction if Maverick did come by his due date. I didn't want either. I wanted the baby to come naturally on his own.

Well, by September 5, 2014, Maverick did not come on his own, and my body was not progressing (no dilation). I did a little researching and found out that there are some women that never "naturally" go into labor and babies die in the womb (these cases are extremely rare). Also, I found out that Josh, my husband and baby daddy, was 10 lbs when he was born and he had to be born via c-section because he was too big. Other big babies got their arms or shoulders broken during labor because they were just too big.

So after much consideration, we decided to go in for an induction.  We got to the hospital on September 9, 2014 at 1:45 a.m. We were initially supposed to go in on September 8, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. but the hospital kept calling and kept pushing the time back because they had no room for us! There were so many babies being born!

So Josh and I waited and waited for the hospital to call. We were eating at In N Out at 12:30 a.m. when the hospital called and said we could come in now. We finished our burgers and fries and moseyed into the hospital. And by 2:30 a.m. I was being pumped full of hormones and 1 cm dilated.

By 9:00 a.m. I was still being pumped full of hormones and I was still only 1 cm dilated. My body just wanted to hold Maverick in, or Maverick just wanted to stay in. The doctor decided to "speed it up" and he broke my water. Ouch! Then the contractions started to really happen.

By 12:00 p.m. I was 10 cm. dilated and Maverick was finally ready to come out. After hard pushing for an hour and 20 minutes (I'll spare you of the gruesome details) Maverick was here!

My first thought after he was born: OMG! Am I ready for this?
Josh's reaction after he was born: He cried. (I didn't).

Mommy and Daddy love you Maverick! xoxo!
